Press release of the MEECC on the 23th of November regarding the meeting for the development of the Burgas – Alexandroupolis pipeline

On the 22nd of November, the Deputy Minister of Environment, Energy and Climate Change of Greece (MEECC), Mr. Yiannis Maniatis, held a meeting at the MEECC regarding the recent developments and the next steps to promote the Burgas – Alexandroupolis oil pipeline.

The meeting took place after the recent positive evaluation of the quality of the Environmental and Social Impact Assessment of the Bulgarian part of the pipeline by the Ministry of Environment and Water of Bulgaria, which was announced officially (to the Greek Ministry) on the 4th of November 2011, in Sofia and which positive evaluation allows the Company to proceed to the Public Consultation stage.

Among others the meeting was attended by the Members of the Greek Parliament, Mr. G. Ntolios,  Mrs. O. Rentari – Tente and  Mrs. E. Tsiaousi, the Head of the region of East Macedonia and Thraki  Mr. A. Giannakidis, the Deputy Heads of the region  Mrs. G. Nikolaou and Mr. G. Oustoglou, the Mayor of Alexandroupolis  Mr. E. Lampakis, the Mayor of Didimoteixo Mr. P. Patsouridis, the Mayor of Orestiada Mr. D. Mouzas, the Mayor of Samothraki Mr. G. Hanos, the Mayor of Soufli  Mr. E. Poulilios, the Director of the Greek Branch of the international company Trans–Balkan Pipeline B.V. Mr. Ch. Dimas and other competent officials.

During the meeting, there was a briefing by Mr. Yiannis Maniatis for the Project regarding the recent developments and by the Company in relation to the possible time schedule of the forthcoming activities, upon the relevant decision is made by the Company’s Shareholders approximately in the middle of December.

The elected representatives set as a basic issue the need to envisage sufficient benefits for the regions that the pipeline will cross. The Deputy Minister EECC and the representative of the international Company clarified that this issue will be discussed among others in the frame of the future host government agreement (between the Project Company and the Greek State).

On behalf of the local Government the issue of reconstitution of the Local Committee of Consultation for the project was set with appropriate update of the Joint Ministerial Decision for which Mr. Maniatis undertook to promote the earliest possible.
